Biography

Dr Clara Frias joined The university of Manchester in 2014 and a Research Project Manager for the Aerospace Research Institute and Northwest Composiste Centre (NWCC/NCCEF). She obtained his BSc degree in Mathematics (University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal), post-graduation in Biomedical devices (University of Porto, Portugal) and PhD in Science of Engineering (University of Porto, Portugal). he has worked for over nine years on research and development of advanced composite materials and structures, looking in particular on smart materials, multifunctional materials and structural health monitoring (SHM). In the last five years she was involved is several Seventh Framework collaborative Projects (FP7). Several topics were addressed on these projects, such as biopolymers, self-reinforced plastics, additive manufacturing, and industrial applications of graphene. Some of the industrial partners involved were: Bombardier, Philips, Röchling Automotive, BAE Systems, B/E Aerospace, Cytec and others. She has around 15 publications in scientific jounals, and an European patent. Clara’s professional path had three years of experience in industry where she developed strong knowledge in composite thermoplastics manufacturing processes.
